Hope in Malaysia
An FCCI team recently returned home from a 3-week trip to Southeast Asia, and what an amazing trip it was!
First was Indonesia, meeting with Indonesian business leaders, worshipping with local Christians, and touring Pelita Harapan University (UPH), which we are praying will soon begin offering courses from FCCI’s Christian Entrepreneurship Program.
The second half of the trip was spent in Malaysia, where God is at work in mighty ways. There, the team encouraged local FCCI groups, conducted Group Leadership Training, and presented from the pulpit at Damansara Utama Methodist Church (DUMC), the largest Christian church in Malaysia. The Group Leadership Training was a huge success, with 46 people in attendance, some of whom travelled up to 5 hours by bus to attend. From this training, locals expect to start 10 new groups in the next few months. At DUMC, Ephesians 2:14-22 was used to frame FCCI’s mission and our calling as Christians to connect with other members of the body of Christ.
A powerful example of FCCI’s impact in Malaysia comes from the testimony of one of the local leaders, Peggy Lim. Her story is a testimonial of God working in the hearts of people faithful to FCCI’s vision. A couple of years ago, Peggy experienced a season of doubt, wondering how to move forward with FCCI’s vision and mission. She felt that there had to be something more than “just getting people together for meetings and doing life on life transformation,’” that there had to be something to “put meaning into all the transformational stuff.”
Everything changed when Peggy attended the FCCI International Business Leaders Conference in 2014 with her husband, Kah Hooi, FCCI’s National Director of Malaysia. “That lifted hope within me for the ministry,” she said. “I was inspired.” From the 2014 conference, “God birthed the seed for the Encubator,” an FCCI training center to launch new entrepreneurs in Malaysia. Peggy says, “I’m hopeful that 
Encubator will put meaning into all the transformational stuff. We want to invest in and bring up the next generation, teach them right so they don’t have to struggle like our generation of business owners over issues of putting God first.”
Doubt is normal. The process is long, hard, and messy. It is bigger than training, encouraging, and sitting in groups. However, Peggy’s story demonstrates that if we are diligent and committed to truly connecting with others, the impact can be significant.
